Summary
The Brunswick I-Jet lab has been given the responsibility of developing a portion of this year’s exhibit for the annual Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas. The goal is for the exhibit to showcase the future of Brunswick technology and provide attendees with an interactive experience by developing an Augmented Reality (AR) recreational boating experience.
Key Focus
Create an engaging journey with futuristic AR features in order to engage the audience and help them learn about the potential of AR in boating.
Processes
Due to ongoing work on the project, I will only be able to discuss details until after the CES exhibition in January 2025!
User Experience
User Journeys: Used to describe exactly what a user would be engaging with at each step of the simulation
- Result: Revealed gaps within the overall journey where additional features may be necessary or connections need to be made.
Information Architecture: Used to map out the flow of the whole journey. Provides a bigger picture to see how one event transitions into another
- Result: Allowed us to see how long the whole simulation would be and see if some part were too long or too short
Visual Design
With each iteration of an interactive design element, I received feedback from the CGI team about feasibility. Feedback from my design supervisor also allowed me to create improved designs for the next iteration.
Usability Testing
User Interviews: Conducted to gauge whether the simulation story was clear and easy to follow along, user understood what they needed to do, and how much they enjoyed the experience
- Result: Identify user pain points while using the simulation and add/remove/change features that hindered user's understanding
Reflection
Before coming into this internship, I had not done much with UX research or practices. But under the mentorship of Anna Chi, my design manager, and collaboration with fellow interns, I was able to learn how to utilize a multitude of UX skills and tools in order to break problems down and tackle the gaps and pain points. This has been a very fulfilling internship and I've truly enjoyed the cross-functional teams I've worked on and the technical context that projects are have been based in.
Huge shoutout to the CES team!
